There are no rules about planning a spring wedding. In fact, maybe the only rule is that you plan a wedding that works best for you. With that said, toss away your notions that spring weddings are all about pastels, Easter references, and an abundance of flowers. If those details do not suit you, there are plenty of other options to make your spring wedding a unique event. Here is a guide to help you plan your perfect wedding in the spring.

Spring, with its floral bounty and sense of renewal, is a perfect time for a wedding and to celebrate a new beginning as husband and wife. A spring wedding can offer couples a wide selection of options for colors, style, and venues. Use the following tips to help you plan your wedding.

  • Choose a few spring elements that truly inspire you and use those elements subtly throughout your wedding décor. If you are moved by fresh peonies, for example, find a stamp with a peony on it and use it for your wedding invitations. You can also use the colors in varying shades throughout your reception linens.
  • Gingham is the perfect spring pattern – it conjures up images of picnic blankets in bright green fields. Choose gingham in a favorite color and let it pop up throughout your wedding – as the fabric that binds your bridesmaids’ bouquets and as a table runner at your reception.
  • Give floral arrangements a homegrown feeling by using floral wreaths in lieu of bouquets. Hang the wreaths from doors or on trees if you are planning an outdoor wedding.
  • Mix flowers with fresh produce to symbolize the abundance and renewal that spring brings.
  • If you are not swept away by flowers, choose other natural elements to incorporate into your spring wedding. Use potted herbs as centerpieces at your reception that guests can also take home as wedding favors. Smooth stones and wheat grass bring the outdoors in and add a fresh, natural vibe to your wedding décor.
  • Spring is the perfect time for a brunch wedding, but there are no rules that say you cannot plan an evening wedding. If you and your guests are of the variety whom like to get their boogie on, plan an evening wedding that allows guests to occupy the dance floor until late in the evening.
  • Weather can be unpredictable or predictably wet in March and April, but you can still plan an outdoor wedding in the spring if that is your ideal wedding setting. Simply have a plan B ready if Mother Nature proves to be uncooperative on the day of your wedding. Find out if the reception site you selected has a space available for your ceremony in case of bad weather. Some couples also choose to rent a tent as a backup – just in case.
  • Your menu should showcase fresh, in-season produce and fair that is light and refreshing. Consider having lemonade, iced tea, sparkling water and cherries and sugar-snap peas on your menu to highlight the tastes of spring.

A spring wedding gives you many opportunities to symbolize renewal and abundance – perfect themes for the beginning of your new life together as husband and wife.
